Villa Albertine Residency
A research residency on sensory exploration and neurodivergence
2024
Residency at the French Institute of Culture, supported by Wanted Design and the Bettencourt Schueller Foundation
My residency at Villa Albertine provided me with the opportunity to deeply explore sensory regulation and neurodivergence, with a focus on creating inclusive environments for neurodivergent children. Over the course of two months, I conducted immersive research in New York, engaging with experts in education, healthcare, architecture, and design to better understand how to develop tools and spaces that meet the specific sensory needs of neurodivergent children.
One of the highlights of this residency was leading a sensory workshop in a Brooklyn school. This workshop, centered around scent and imagination, allowed children to explore the connection between smell and memory by experiencing unique scents and translating them into drawings. Observing the diversity of their perceptions and creativity underscored the importance of multisensory educational approaches tailored to different learning profiles.
The residency concluded with a presentation during the announcement of Villa Albertine’s 2025 residents, where I shared my research and reflections on inclusivity and sensory design in education. This experience marks the beginning of a new phase in my work: applying these insights to concrete projects in collaboration with key actors in the education and healthcare sectors, with the goal of developing innovative solutions for a more inclusive and sensory-adapted pedagogy.
A huge thank you to Villa Albertine, WantedDesign, and the Bettencourt Schueller Foundation for their invaluable support in this exploration, which will help me transform this specialized network and research into impactful projects.
